PRÉSENTATION: Ce coffret de 10 CD est le premier à présenter un aperçu complet de l'héritage de Vladimir Sofronitzky, qui est encore considéré comme l'un des plus grands pianistes russes du XXe siècle. En tant que mari d'une fille d'Alexandre Scriabine, son nom a toujours été très étroitement lié aux oeuvres de ce compositeur, et elles sont également largement représentées ici. Cependant, les impressionnants enregistrements de Schubert et Schumann, qui permettent une évaluation plus précise de ce pianiste, sont également très intéressants. Ses conflits avec les lignes directrices de la politique culturelle soviétique ont empêché - en particulier dans les années 1930 - des tournées de concerts plus longues dans les pays occidentaux. À cette époque, Sofronitzky enseigne au Conservatoire de Léningrad (1936 - 42) puis de 1942 à 1961 à Moscou. Il évitait autant que possible les apparences glamour. Ses enregistrements ont été réalisés dans la Grande Salle et dans la Salle de musique de chambre du Conservatoire de Moscou, pour la Sonate n°7 de Prokofiev et les Préludes et Fugues op.87 de Shostakovich au Musée commémoratif Scriabine. Avec les enregistrements d'oeuvres de Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy et Liszt, ainsi que les moins connus Lyadov, Borodine et Glazounov, ils offrent maintenant l'opportunité de percevoir ce pianiste aux prises avec l'abus d'alcool et de drogues dans toute sa signification artistique.
